Ashleigh’s love for technology

It should come as no surprise that Ashleigh has a love of technology.  She is very well versed in every day computer use as well as the Wii.  Who would have guessed with parents who are so anti-technology right?  RIGHT?  Not buying it?  Ok..I tried.

Occasionally when I am sitting on my laptop working Ashleigh will come over and ask to send Grandma an email.  When she was younger she used to IM with Aunt Beth.  Last week she moved on to another person again and asked to send Daddy an email.  While she does often get responses to her emails to others, the response from Wes had me laughing out loud, so I had to post it.  I usually provide a translation of what she tells me the email says, but we were busy getting ready to go to Grandma and Grandpa’s on Friday, so this email is lacking the translation.

Here is their email exchange -

your letters and hope you keep sending me them!

Only Wes would send back a response thanking Ashleigh for taking time out of her very busy day to send him a note. Yes folks, she had to put down the Wii-mote and pick up the laptop for a few minutes while Mommy was running around doing laundry. It was definitely a challenge. ;-)

Lots of love for Valentine’s Day

We had a great Valentine’s Day.  Ashleigh really loved shopping for cards and presents and handing them out.  She even insisted on getting a card for Rebekah from her.  When Wes took her shopping she picked out an adorable pink dress for Rebekah, complete with the matching shoes, socks, and hat.  It looks like Rebekah will be a stylin little girl for Easter thanks to her big sister!

Our morning was filled with fun times of giving each other presents and cards at random times.  We also were getting ready to go to the salon.  Ashleigh and I had appointments at All About Me Salon and Day Spa in Towson.  She was geting a hair cut, and I was getting a cut and highlghts.  I was excited, but nervous about how Bekah would do.  Luckily she slept through the entire visit to the salon.  When we got there Ashleigh started to get shy and nervous.  We all went and met our stylist Olga.  Funny side note, on our way there I was reading reviews about the salon, and someone raved about her.  I was quite happy to have gotten her.  Ashleigh stood there and watched me get started, and played on the chair next to where I was for a few minutes, until they needed the chair.  She foiled my hair, then cut Ashleigh’s.  Ash was NOT happy to have her hair cut, despite how much we had talked it up for the previous few days.  Olga put the booster in the chair, I put Ash in, and she straightened her legs and pushed herself right out.  I didnt realize what she was doing, so I put her in again.  Then I realized she was crying.  So, Olga had me sit and put Ash in my lap.

Olga had told me that her first job out of beauty school was at Cartoon Cuts.  She said it was a horrible work experience with a bunch of bratty kids and parents who don’t want to help, but she learned how to cut FAST.  And, boy was she ever right!  In what seemed like the blink of an eye Ashleigh’s hair had been trimmed straight across the back and was given new life with long layers throughout.  Her hair looks much healthier and the curl looks better with the layers.

Once we were done at the salon we were ready for dinner.  We had a late breakfast, and missed lunch, so an early dinner sounded about perfect.  We  headed over to Canton Dockside for some crack, I mean, Crab Bisque.  When we got home we finished exchanging presents.  Ashleigh was THRILLED to get some new Dora underpants, new barrettes for her hair, and some organic fruit leather.  Of course, the big hit was the Dove Chocolate I threw in the top of her bag.   We had a great day spending some time together as a family.

Now the photos –

The photos you all have been waiting for…

Ok so I’m REALLY behind.  To say life has been busy would be an understatement.

I guess I need to go back to Christmas…

Christmas Eve morning we woke up with Ashleigh and a tummy ache.  Her tummy ache turned into the stomach bug and boy was it nasty!  She and I stayed home Christmas Eve while Wes visited with his family.  Christmas Day she wasn’t throwing up any more, but boy was she miserable.  You know your child is sick when they whine that they’d rather watch tv in your bed than come downstairs to open presents.   The day after Christmas my parents came to visit, and then over the weekend we got to spend time with Wes’s side of the family.

I have some photos from our Christmas celebrations here –

There was some video, but I don’t think Wes has gotten it edited yet, so you’ll have to stay tuned.

The week between Christmas and New Year’s Wes and Ashleigh spent recovering, and dealing with the stomach bug.  I spent the time praying I didn’t get it!    The thought of being 37 weeks pregnant with the stomach bug was certainly not something that sounded like a good idea to me.  Wes took the 2 weeks of Christmas and New Years off and we had a TON to do to prepare for the arrival of our new baby.

New Years Eve we went to the Aquarium with Uncle Garry, Aunt Ann, and Virginia.   I realized that I had virtually no photos of me this pregnancy.  So, I instructed Wes that we needed to get photos of me and my ever growing belly.  Good thing he did since Bekah was born 6 days later!

Here are those photos -

Last but not least are the rest of the photos of Bekah.  From the hospital and days following at home.

I’m not sure what other photos I’ve added without blogging, so make sure you take a look at the Photo Albums page and see them!  I’ll try not to be so long between updates ;-)

Happy 1-month Rebekah

Yes, we’re a week late.  The whole hospital stay thing put us off a week in doctor’s visits, so we went in yesterday for her 5 week check up instead of 1 month…

Rebekah,

It’s amazing how fast you have grown.  Just a few short weeks ago you were still in my belly.  Then you made your GRAND entrance, and you were this little cuddly toy baby.  You’ve been a pretty good sleeper from the start.  You slept 3 – 4 hours at a time at night as soon as we were home and not being disturbed by nurses at all hours.  You have shown us that you will not be ignored and put off as the second child.  You are quite vocal about your needs and will not take no for an answer.  While it may make Mommy and Daddy a little nuts as you grow up, it will be a good trait to have in adulthood.  Always stand up for yourself and what you feel is right.  I know you will do big things.  You are a big eater.  You and Ashleigh are both growing like weeds right now.  It certainly makes Mommy happy to know that you two are thriving and growing.  In the past 5 weeks from your birth you have gained 2 pounds and grown over an inch, depending upon whose measurements you trust.  At birth you weighed 7lbs 9oz and were measured at 20 inches long.  Before we left the hospital you were down to 7lbs 1 oz and at your one week pediatrician visit you were 7lbs 3 oz and 20 3/4 inches.  Rationally there is no way you grew 3/4 of an inch in the first week, so you were over 20 inches at birth, we’re just not sure how much over 20 inches.  Yesterday you were 9lbs 9oz and 21 3/4 inches.  You are in the 50th percentile for weight and the 75th percentile for height.  You are growing perfectly and right on par with where your big sister was.

You are learning new tricks every day.  You are very observant of the world around you and you are starting to turn your head to see where the noises you hear are comig from.  You can now hold your head up, though you sometimes decide it is too  much work and it;s easier to let your head hang.  You have grown to love your swing, and are enjoying your bouncer too.  You even enjoy short visits in your Bumbo Seat.  This is great for moments when mommy has to help Ashleigh with something.  You love being cuddled in the Moby Wrap or the Mei Tai.  We’ll be getting our pretty new sling soon, and I’m sure you’ll love that too!

You currently have your first cold, and it’s been rough on all of us.  Mommy and Daddy hate knowing you don’t feel well.  You have been quite congested and uncomfortable.  The good news is that your chest is clear and all the congestion is in your head, so it will pass and you will be fine, it’s just a matter of waiting it out.  We all know that Mommy has very little patience, especially when we’re waiting for you or your sister to get better, so hopefully it passes soon!

Now that you’re 5 weeks old we’re starting to get out more.  You’ve had your first two trips to the food store this week, as well as your first trip to the mall.  Mommy is getting the hang of this two kids thing and I think we’ve all survived the first month wonderfully!  You’re out growing all things newborn and moving into 0-3 months clothes and size 1 diapers.  It’s time to start trying out some cloth diapers now that you’re big enough.

We love watching you grow and change with each day, but could you slow down a bit?  There’s no hurry.  Time will go on and you will grow, but I’m really ok with you staying little for as long as you can.  You won’t stay little long and I’m trying to enjoy each moment.  Give me lots of moments, ok kid?

All my love,

Mommy
